The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)
Under the CDBS, we are happy to cover up to $1,052 over two calendar years for basic dental services. These include:
- Checkups
- X-rays
- Cleanings
- Fissure sealings
- Fillings
- Root canals
- Extractions
Each year on 1 January, the cap amount is indexed, and the increase in cap amount only applies to a child or teen who received their first eligible service in that calendar year.
Navigating the CDBS
We understand that navigating programs like the CDBS can be added work for moms and dads, so we are happy to help each step of the way. Here’s what to know about the CDBS:
Under the CDBS, you have the opportunity to claim up to $1,052 for each eligible child over a span of two consecutive calendar years. This benefit begins on the 1st of January of the year when your child becomes eligible and receives their first dental service.
In the first calendar year, you have the flexibility to utilise the full amount of $1,052. However, if you do so, there will not be any remaining funding available for the second year. On the other hand, if you don’t use the full allotment in the first year, you can carry it over and utilise it in the second year, provided your child remains eligible.
It is important to note that if you don’t utilise the full amount within the two-year period, you will not be able to access the remaining funds. In such cases, you must wait for a new two-year period to begin. Additionally, if your child loses eligibility, any unused funding will not be accessible.
Services not covered by The Dental Junction under CDBS include orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry, as well as dental services in a hospital.
